about us

Strengthening the brand 'Adelaide Hills' in the gourmet world and the wider community.

The Adelaide Hills

The Adelaide Hills has traditionally had a strong food-producing heritage as “the vegetable basket and fruit bowl” to the city of Adelaide. The cool, green hills produce strawberries, raspberries and cherries in the summer, apples, pears, plums and quinces in the autumn and cabbages, leeks, lettuces and rhubarb throughout the year.

Primary production remains a key feature of the Adelaide Hills. In addition to those families who have worked the land for as many as six generations, are today’s producers who have used their skills and imagination to work with the excellent produce of the region and transform it into unique and innovative food on the plate.

The Adelaide Hills is now well-known for its artisan bread and cheese, venison, beef, German-style smallgoods, organic dairy, biscuits and cakes, chocolate and sweets, dips, jams, marinades, herbs and honey.

Adelaide Hills Food history

The Adelaide Hills Food Network first started to meet early 1998. Several local food producers were brought together to participate in a training program and found they enjoyed the interaction with like minded people on a professional and personal level. They continued to meet on a monthly basis at the completion of the training program and set about establishing a regional food network.

Today sees the Adelaide Hills Food Network functioning as an incorporated body with an employed public relations officer and a growing membership base of 40.

Adelaide Hills Food is an industry driven network the driving force behind this network being the passion and commitment of the local food industry. This commitment is central to the success of the network.

Adelaide Hills Food is a group of progressive food producers who are passionate about what they do individually and what they can achieve collectively

Our Structure

Adelaide Hills Food meets on the first Tuesday of every month at selected venues around the Hills. This is a forum to keep the members up to date with matters relevant to their businesses, as well as hearing from educational speakers, member businesses and the venue host.

Meetings are frequently used for taste testing a members new product or contributing to packaging design. Adelaide Hills Food is governed by an Executive Committee comprising of 7 people including a Chairperson, Secretary, Treasurer and Public Relations Officer.

Our Mission:  Adelaide Hills Food exists to help sustain and grow each of its member’s businesses through its work in assisting growth of the region and the food industry as a whole by working with industry partners, other food groups and government agencies.

Our aim is to build strong partnerships across all sectors of the region’s food industry, from primary production to food service, including industry partners wine and tourism.

Through communication and education, Adelaide Hills Food will work with consumers to promote the unique and exceptional qualities of the region’s food and the pleasure and well-being it can bring.

Our Vision: By 2010, the Adelaide Hills will be recognised, both nationally and internationally, for the creativity, quality and sustainability of its food culture.
